Multicultural Work Teams: From Variables to Configurations

The purpose of the chapter is to propose a new theoretical framework for multicultural work team and to demonstrate how this configurational approach may be helpful to managers faced with culturally diverse teams. A typology depicting five types of cross-cultural teams is presented: strategic coordination teams, mixed operational teams, project teams, professional teams and quasi-homogeneous teams. For each type of team, effective cross-cultural management modes, interpersonal and organizational, are identified.
