This book presents a diachronic description of the building of a totally new organization within the Paris metro. It analyzes the contrast between the attitudes and behaviors of the employees who are involved in this project and those who remain outside. The author discusses the conditions under which low status French employees, who generally adopt a distant and critical attitude towards their own organization, may be fully involved in a project in which they found an opportunity to earn the recognition that is ordinarily refused in the French working system to those who cannot rely on a strong professional status.
