A Tough Day for a French Expatriate in Vietnam: The Management of a Large International Infrastructure Project

Sylvie Chevrier, in C. Barmeyer, P. Franklin (dir) Intercultural management. A Case-Based Approach to Achieving Complementarity and Synergy, Palgrave MacMillan, 2016, chap. 17, p. 228-239.

This chapter is a case study for teaching purpose. It describes the experience of a French expatriate, namely Bruno, in Vietnam. Bruno is successively faced with a tough negotiation with governmental authorities, difficult relations with suppliers and the resignation of a local employee. These issues are the pivotal points to conduct a comparative analysis of both French and Vietnamese cultural contexts.
